Pawsmic Catellites is an RPG set in outer space, but not exactly in the cosmos we know. This game takes place in a Nyalaxy, a small spiral galaxy between Andromeda and the Milky Way that remains invisible to mankind. This is no accident! The cats living in the Nyalaxy have developed sophisticated technology that keeps their home hidden. They rely on specialized "catellites" that interfere with astronomy tools on other planets, allowing them to stay under the radar, quite literally.
None of this would be possible without the brave Catronauts sent out on missions across the cosmos. These explorers venture into unknown space to discover alien civilizations, study their technology, and build catellites capable of jamming it.
You play a junior catellite engineer who has just completed your residency at engineering school and are finally ready for your first mission. You've waited a long time for this moment!!! Now, as your training has taught you, success depends on three things. You must explore, communicate, and above all, survive.
Kitty Chatter
A symphony of meows! Meow, meow, meowww.
Made using the Arturia Microfreak Synth, this symphony of meows plays whenever an NPC is talking. It’s meant to emulate the rhythm of human speech, but in meows! This analogue synth captured the spacey, animal-crossing hybrid sound I imagined for this setting, so I used it extensively for this project! Slightly pitch shifted in Soundtrap.
Alarm
Something's gone wrong!
Something’s gone wrong, panic! This alarm, also made using the Microfreak, sounds when something aboard the spacecraft is malfunctioning. It’s similar sonically to the meows, but in the unrelenting rhythm of an emergency alarm. Lightly edited in Soundtrap.
Task Succeeded
Yaaay, good job!
Yaaay, good job! This sound plays when you succeed at any task in the game, be it a mini-game, a puzzle, or a great encounter with an NPC! You’ll hear a short, upward glissando paired with a cheerful chord. Made using the microfreak and some light editing in Soundtrap.
Task Failed
Uh-oh…I’m sorry :(
Uh-oh…I’m sorry :( It looks like you hit a roadblock, or asteroid, or alien! You’ll hear this sound if you’re unable to get through a task in the game. Made using the Microfreak. Contrasting the success sound, you’ll hear a short downwards glissando accompanied by a sad minor chord. It’s okay, there’s always a chance to succeed!
Blast off!
The engines are firing up!
The engines are firing up! Wait... are they bubbling over? Unlike rockets on Earth, cats run their spaceships on almost entirely liquid propellant. They've cracked something about power we haven't. Made by blowing bubbles as hard as I could into my water bottle through a straw. Edited in Soundtrap to punch up the bass and cut the top end.
Asteroid Bonk
Thank god the spaceship is cushy... for now.
Thank god the spaceship is cushy... for now. Space trips are rarely smooth! These cats have to listen for and navigate asteroids in their flight path, sometimes getting bombarded for minutes straight. Listen to the sounds to figure out which direction the asteroids are coming from, then steer the ship accordingly! Made using the Microfreak combined with a kick drum from Soundtrap.
Scratch
Paws out, claws outtt!!!
Paws out, claws outtt!!! Those built-in shredders aren't just for show. Catronauts use their claws to cut through jammed debris and tangled wreckage, clearing a path when things get blocked, and boy do they cut deep! Made by scratching the metal surface of my water bottle with a fork, lightly edited in Soundtrap.
Made by Shireen Khan for DAC 204. I made this orange kitty for Pawsmic Catellites too :D
